Endurance Karting

Endurance Karting from the perspective of Team Canberra

Disaster !!!

Posted by admin On April - 24 - 2009

Don’t Panic…Gil and I are doing more than enough of that to cover us all :-)

A practice day out at Canberra lasted 4 laps before we had a throttle jam on one of the motors. No biggy, we found the problem, fixed it then Gil suited up for some more practice. Start one motor no problems, start the second motor and heard a horrible knocking sound and then the motor dies after a few seconds. This didn’t sound good and our hearts sank.

We take it back to the pits and soon found that the motor was seizing at top dead centre…….SHIT !!

A few frantic calls to the King of Parts (AyDee) and we have organised a new motor to get prep’ed and tagged hopefully in the next week or so. Now we wait for that to occur so I can drive up to Sydney and pick up the new motor with enough time to run it in before the Canberra round.

There is no worse feeling than seeing your kart without one motor and a championship round 2 weeks away. Oh well I’m confident that King of Parts will come through with the new motor. It has sort of forced our decision about which way to go, motor wise, between the Briggs and Stratton and the Hondas. We’ll be competing in the Honda series for at least the next couple of seasons. If we could get a Briggs off the shelf in a week or so it may have made a different decision.

Anyway I’ll keep you posted on the new motor.

Cheers

Eric
