4+4 Hour Double Header
Qalifying – Eric.
Qualified 18th out of 22. Kart was slow. Kart was pushing through the corners and no power out.
Summary:
Bad day, enough said!
Saturday Race 1 – Chris started.
This was a different story to the previous round, problems, lots of problems. Failed throttle linkage, repaired. Broken throttle cable, repaired. Breather hose came out of valve cover, blew oil everywhere. Kart was slow and could not get drive out of corners. Finished 18th
Sunday Race 2 – Gil started.
Talked to some of the other teams, they recommended we increase our tyre pressure to 23 in the front and 24 in the rears. Problem with kart was it had too much grip and this caused it to bog down out of the corners. Increased pressure lessened the grip and made the kart faster, it was loose but controlled loose. Kart was easier to drive and was more consistent. Gil started race and made up a few places, all drivers doing consistent times of high 39’s to low 41’s. Kart was reliable and fast, blew bolt out of exhaust in the last 10 minutes, did not effect result. Finished 14th.
Round Summary:
Good result considering race 1 fiasco. Learnt a valuable lesson about tyre pressures, 23 and 24 will make the kart loose but fast plus easier to drive physically. Also need to look at wheel offset for different tracks in view of getting more or less traction out of corners. All in all very pleasing result. Thanks must go to the guys at Blind Men Racing (No. 42) and Peter from For Sale (No. 55) for the valuable advice.
