Endurance Karting

Endurance Karting from the perspective of Team Canberra

Round 4 – Griffith

Posted by admin On December - 16 - 2008

5 Hour

Saturday qualifying – Eric, Gil.

Qualified 16th from 20. Qualifying was under lights in cold conditions with the combined time of the 2 drivers. Times were slower than practice due to the colder conditions, could not generate enough heat in the tyres, needed more tyre pressure? Eric’s time was 45.3, Gil did a 45.0, could not match the times from practice, disappointing.

Sunday Race – Chris started.

Race start was in cool conditions and the kart setup struggled for grip, doing low 46’s, 3-4 seconds off the leaders. Kart went out with low tyre pressures (19 front 21 back) but it was decided to leave them as is and let the track come to us, This did not work. Talked to other teams and they all increased tyre pressure to 22-23 front 24-26 back. Managed to circulate consistently in the 15th-16th position for the first 4 hours while staying in touch with the 12th-14th place runners (all on the same lap). With less than an hour to go the safety kart came out due to oil on the track, 30 minutes later while the safety kart was still out and Chris was driving when our luck ran out again, 3 broken teeth on the front sprocket, threw the chain which some how managed to twist and bend. Came in and replaced the chain. Sent Eric out but the motor had shifted and the chain came off again, came in reseated engine and tightened. Went back out in last place, 2 laps to go broke muffler but still managed to finish, just, in last place!

Summary:
Very disappointing result but that’s racing, hopefully our luck will change soon (still had a lot of fun though)!
