2+2 Hour Double header
Qualifying:
Was taken from the best lap time in practice then teams were grouped by 10 fastest, 10 second fastest etc. We came in the 2nd group. Each team from that group then drew out a number from a hat and that was the starting grid position. Ours was 14.
Race 1:
Chris started Race 1 from 14th grid position in wet conditions. Rain had stopped but the track was still very wet and slippery. Chris made a good start and made up a couple of places in the first couple of laps before getting tangled up in someone else’s mistake. This dropped him to the back of the field. He struggled on and made up several places before Eric took over at the 40 minute mark. Eric put in a strong drive and slowly made his way through slower traffic with conditions going from drying to wet. Gil took over for the final stint and was travelling nicely before it all went wrong. For several laps one of the motors was coughing coming out of the hairpin, then after getting caught up with a couple of slower karts who where scrapping with each, he then spun after a kart in front of him slowed and with one on his outside there was nowhere to go but off. This caused one of the motors to stall. Came into the pits and had the motor restarted, went back out only to have the motor stall again half way down the straight. Managed to limp home in 22nd place overall, 8th in B grade.
Race 2:
Race 2 was a reverse grid start so the previous races bad luck put us 4th on the grid for race 2. Eric started with the conditions still wet and greasy. Eric put in a solid performance with some very level headed wet weather driving and managed to hold out some faster A and B grade teams before changing over to Chris at the 40 minute mark. Chris drove really well and managed to keep out of trouble that many others around him could not. At the 1 hour 20 minute mark Chris came in to change over to Gil to finish off. Gil was going along nicely having some good scraps with other higher placed teams before he got a little too cocky and tried to go around a couple of corners faster than one should in the wet. He spun out a couple of times but did not lose too much time, only a couple of places and dented his pride a bit. He was heard to say after
